The Charlotte Lacrosse Foundation (CLF), a nonprofit foundation in Weddington, North Carolina, proudly announced Jacob Thorpe as the 2011 recipient of the Mike VanScoy Memorial Sportsmanship Award.  Annually, CLF awards the Mike VanScoy Memorial Sportsmanship Award to a youth lacrosse player in the Charlotte area who has promoted the sport of lacrosse through sportsmanship, integrity and a willingness to help other players.

“Jacob embodies the standards of the award – integrity and sportsmanship, both on and off the lacrosse field.  We are proud to award the first Mike VanScoy Memorial Sportsmanship Award to such a deserving young man, who exhibits passion, commitment, and respect for his teammates, coaches and other players,” said Bob VanScoy, President of the Charlotte Lacrosse Foundation.

The award consists of a plaque, a new lacrosse stick and a check for $1,000.00. This award is funded by a private grant from the VanScoy family to honor the memory of Mike VanScoy.  Unlike the other programmatic goals of the Foundation, the Mike VanScoy Memorial Sportsmanship Award is not need based, but was created to encourage sportsmanship and character amongst youth athletes.
